Harp
Trying to play a Harp

I had the opportunity to rent a harp for three months and still remember the house in Bonvilston where I collected and returned it. Harps are pretty big so I took the firm's van and managed to manhandle it into the family home. I found it had 45 strings with pairs colour red for the beginning of each octave. That enabled you to see at a glance the corresponding note an octave up or down.

It also had 7 pedals. These are used to sharpen selected notes so that in the key of G, you always had an F sharp.

I got the hang of this, but without a teacher it was a forlorn hope to learn to play. I could have gone to the Castle which is where the College of Music lived in those days, but I did not make any progress in 3 months and returned it without seeking lessons.
