RAF Hospital Wroughton is in Wiltshire near the M4, and conveniently close to RAF Lyneham. I worked on a medical ward and served the usual duties of a male nurse. I later became a theatre nurse until I managed to get onto a Casevac course. The purpose of Casevac is to transport casualties who are in dire need for evacuation from the battlefield.

 

Although it was peacetime, the RAF needed to have the means of transporting people and for it to run smoothly in readiness for an emergency.
